Ismael de Anda III & Eugene Ahn present their new project Hinges of the Western Hemisphere, which they are preparing for the Alt\u00e1n Klamovka gallery in Prague. At the same time, they will showcase their collaboration through artistic examples of interactive video installations and interventions that incorporate both analog and digital technologies, including site-specific aerial video footage and augmented reality as a means of expanding the role of the viewer\/participant. De Anda & Ahn will also share their experiences participating in international projects with the artist collective Durden and Ray Gallery in Los Angeles, as well as their curatorial projects, including exhibitions in collaboration with the Torrance Art Museum.<\/div>\n
The title of the project for Alt\u00e1n Klamovka originates from the Czech translation of the phrase Hinges of the Western Hemisphere, which Ismael de Anda coined to describe a Mexican pass originally located at El Paso del Norte (Pass of the North), a geological valley connecting the northernmost part of the North American continent with Central America and extending to the tip of South America. This historic crossing point and link is situated at the gateway between El Paso, Texas, USA, and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. From this region, Ismael\u2019s maternal lineage traces back to the Brito family farm, specifically located in Presidio, Texas, near the outskirts of Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico.<\/div>\n
Ismael de Anda III (born in El Paso, Texas; lives and works in Los Angeles) earned his MFA from CalArts. His artistic practice employs intermedia approaches, including digital photo collage, drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, and interactive site-specific projects. He draws inspiration from his pluralistic upbringing at the U.S.-Mexico border and his life in Los Angeles. His works are often site-specific, shaped by the communities in which they are created, incorporating local places and materials.<\/div>\n
Eugene Ahn explores the intersections of the material and virtual worlds by creating systems and experiences that challenge ways of perceiving, thinking, and being. His work is interactive, immersive, and personal, taking an interdisciplinary approach to understanding and critiquing cultural norms from a holistic perspective. Using logic, mathematics, storytelling, and myth, Ahn seeks to reimagine encounters with visual, textual, architectural, object-based, internet-based, and conceptual forms of thought.<\/div>\n
