Summer School 2022
2nd YEAR OF FAD SUMMER SCHOOL
20—27 August 2022
The FAD Summer School invites all artists and designers to Ústí nad Labem. We offer professional and creative meetings with a number of famous creators, inspiring courses and side events. The Faculty of Art and Design of Jan Evangelista Purkyně University (FAD JEPU) organizes the second year of SUMMER SCHOOL offering the public 10 courses across the FAD studios. These will become a space for meetings with professors, designers and experts in the field, under whose guidance the course participants will be able to gain or deepen their practical experiences in a number of artistic and design techniques. The week-long series of workshops will culminate in an exhibition which will happen at the end of the Summer School in the building of FAD. The second year of FAD Summer School happening between 20 and 27 August 2022 offers courses to students, creators and designers.
The application submission deadline (over e-mail / application form) is on 30 July 2022 or you can buy the course via UJEP e-shop (the link available soon).

WHO CAN APPLY
Creators aged from 18 years interested in contemporary art or design.
Our courses are designed for those who want to improve their skills in the chosen field.
We welcome adult high school students, university applicants, as well as the general public. The course participants will receive a certificate of completion.

Graphic techniques that you will fall in love with
ANNOTATION
During the course, the participants will experience the whole process of screen printing. From making their own design and its pre-print preparation, through exposure and screen preparation, to the final print. All process accompanied by professional explanation and supervision. The aim is to realize own motif by printing colours on various materials – paper and textiles. At the end of the course, everyone will be introduced to the possibilities of graphic screen printing techniques and its further use in practice. The results will be presented in the gallery “Venkovka” and in front of the Workshop U Pavouka.

ANNOTATION
The participants of the workshop will first manually create illustrations under the guidance of Bára Müllerová which they will then move in a short animation with Kateřina Javůrková. The workshop combines the principles of handcraft and digital animation, helps unlock the fear of drawing and introduces the participants to the basics of digital animation in After Effects programme. A part of the course will also be a short introduction to basic principles of screenwriting based on which each participant will create his/her own short video.

ANNOTATION
Playing and modularity, as principles for creating design outputs, typography and visual language. Creating rules and modular elements and their use in graphic design. At the beginning of the workshop, examples of modular and game principles in the history and present graphic design will be introduced. The course participants will experience the use of different generative approaches, creating and using their own variable systems. The output of the workshop will be an author’s print format, a poster.

ANNOTATION
The participants will be introduced to handmade textile techniques from painting on textile, embroidery and assemblage, to carpet weaving. They will learn to make and stretch the frame themselves, create a mood board and an image of their own design.

ANNOTATION
The purpose of the course is to create and work on a common audio-visual project based on very intense team work. The participants will be divided into individual teams with a specific focus. Under the guidance of experienced artists and lecturers they will participate in creating an experimental environment that will explore possibilities not only of interdisciplinary overlaps, but also the possibilities of approaches to the production of complex structures of the current audio-visual project. The environment, performance, video, sound, light, projection and their intelligence are just the tip of the iceberg that the participants could try out. The output will be presented in a multifunctional hall in the House of Arts in Ústí nad Labem.

ANNOTATION
The participants of this course will have the chance to design a wooden interior element also in combination with other material which they will then produce under professional supervision. They will go through a process of design, correction, preparation of production materials, to the realization of the element itself. A carpentry workshop and other workshops for working with other materials will be available, together with digitally controlled machines. The output of the workshop will be an original product.

From camera obscura, through photogram to developing negative
ANNOTATION
The course is focused on digital and analog photography. During the course, the participants will learn basic exponometry and work with artificial light in studio. For those interested in digital photography, we offer both basic and advanced principles of indoor and outdoor photography and subsequently, editing them on a computer. For those interested in analog photography, we offer traditional photography approaches from camera obscura, through photogram to developing black and white film. During the lectures, we will also focus on the composition of the photographic ensemble, current trends in art photography and what is the secret of a good photography.
The condition of participation is to have own anolog or digital camera and notebook.

ANNOTATION
This course offers the participants an experience in implementation of small objects cast from metal by the method of fusible model. During this course, the participants will create a wax model, shape it and cast it. As a part of the course, they will gain full experience with technologies associated with the creation of model, mould and casting.

ANNOTATION
This course is focused on practical learning and training of drawing and painting. The teaching program and assigned tasks are ordered by difficulty and with an individual approach to each participant. In three FAD studios, there will bean intense practical course of drawing and painting focused on the following techniques: charcoal and pastel drawing, watercolor, acrylic, tempera and oil painting. The participants will learn about the composition, perspective, proportions, light and shadow, colours effects and anatomy. As a part of the course is drawing and painting the nude according to a live model and a free discussion on drawing and painting. The participants should bring work clothes, drawing tools, colours, brushes and a palette. The faculty will provide papers, folders, easels and all other art tools and materials.

ANNOTATION
The aim of the course is to provide an insight into basic steps of book printing and relief printing. The output of the course will be a collection of posters created by all course participants. Each participant will receive a hand printed poster. We will explore the possibilities of working in the field of thinking about the concept of printed matter, as well as in the implementation of the poster. We will mainly focus on manual typesetting, working with printing plate and register. We will go through printing preparation, printing process to the final register. We will work in the graphic workshops at the faculty. The poster presentation will be pasted to public space in Ústí nad Labem. The practical lessons will be accompanied with regular group discussions on the unfinished project. The course will also be accompanied by a lecture about history and current types of author’s book printing. The participants should bring work clothes and drawing tools. All other tools will be provided by the faculty.
