David Kořínek is an artist and university lecturer who has been working at the Department of History and Theory of Arts, Faculty of Art and Design, Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem, since 2022.
Until 2022, he was the Head of the Centre of Audiovisual Studies at FAMU in Prague. He teaches courses at UMPRUM and Scholastika. In 2008, together with Federico Díaz, he co-founded the Studio of Supermedia at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (UMPRUM), where he served as Head until 2018. He obtained his academic title of Associate Professor at UMPRUM. At the Department of Media Studies at Masaryk University, he established the Digital Media programme and led the Media Laboratory. He also worked as a dramaturge at Czech Television, with which he continues to collaborate as a director.
Since 2007, he has been a member of the art group Rafani, which regularly exhibits in European galleries and institutions. The group’s work encompasses a variety of media – from gallery installations and public space projects to videos and a feature-length documentary. Rafani have received numerous awards, and their works are represented in both institutional and private collections.
David Kořínek focuses on the theory of the moving image in relation to visual arts and is the author of scholarly texts published in art journals and collected volumes. He is also active as a curator. In his academic practice, he concentrates on contemporary art in connection with audiovisual media (video, film, new media, post-internet, performance, etc.).
